As a collector of specific genres of music, there is always one place my heart resides with the music that the incomparable 4AD has released over the years. During the 80’s and early 90’s they inspired a generation and much of the Strawberry Tongue playlist. Defining the label, the sound crossed boundaries of postpunk, new wave, alternative, ethereal, dreampop, experimental and goth. Quite simply 4AD’s sound was like no other.
During this time, there are a number of tracks that were made available only on promotional releases or b-sides that only the most rabid fans may get to hear. Many are demos and alternate versions of songs that may have been released in different forms. These are tracks from well-known acts such as The Pixies, Belly, Throwing Muses, The Breeders, Xmal Deustchland and Cocteau Twins. It also includes a number of lesser known artists on the 4AD roster including Wolfgang Press, Lush, Unrest, Spoonfed Hybrid, Swallow, Underground Lovers, Insides and others.
