Schonwald | Berlin Ice

Schonwald, a longtime favorite of Strawberry Tongue, has recently released a new video single for their song “Berlin Ice.” The track, taken from the brand new album “Night Idyll” is paired with the 1932 Max Fletcher animation “Minnie The Moocher,” starring Betty Boop. The eerie, icy track creates a cold, detached soundscape for the surreal, dreamlike fantasy that Betty and her pal, Bimbo, glide through. Dancing skeletons, singing walruses, and prisoner ghosts being sent to electric chairs are some of the horrifying images that Betty and Bimbo endure.

In the original film, the singing walrus is the voice of Cab Calloway singing the drug-laden song, “Minnie the Moocher,” to Betty, who has run away from her parents and goes to hide in a cave with Bimbo. The disturbing cartoon images elevate the nervy, reverb-y guitars that have become a hallmark to the Schonwald sound.
